Started during the Spring Semester of 2000, our GCMS is one of the newer and more important offerings of our Tiger Bands. The goal and purpose of the GCMS is to each semester, bring to our Georgetown campus and our Tiger Symphonic Band, an outstanding College/University or highly-acclaimed public school conductor. These nationally-renowned directors, performers, educators and composers will rehearse our Tiger Symphonic Band, sharing with the Band Scholars their wisdom and musical knowledge. The GCMS provides for both our Band Scholars and the Director of our Tiger Bands [that would be me - for those of you who are having any synapse slippage] new approaches, new interpretations, new solutions to the musical challenges which face us.
For three years [2003-2004, 2004-2005 & 2005-2006], as with many
things, budgetary exigencies caused us to not schedule a GCMS. This year
[if all plans and schedules can be worked out], we shall resume our GCMS
[and it very likely shall be in conjunction with our "Joint Concert
Mini-Series"]. Again,
plans are still pending - but I have hopes. The GCMS is one of our special
programs that most-positively contributes to the growth and development of our Tiger Band Program.
