Central Kentucky Concert Band Since 1994, Dr. Peter LaRue, Director of the Tiger Bands, has also served as the Music Director & Conductor of the Central Kentucky Concert Band. This relationship has been significant very important for both programs. The Central Kentucky Concert Band, founded in 1976, is based primarily at Transylvania University and each year performs three "Regular Season" concerts [two at Transylvania and one at the Lexington Opera House], as well as maintains an active "Summer Pops Series". The CKCB is comprised of extraordinarily talented professional, semi-professional and amateur musicians, from all walks of life, who share a commitment to music-making and band performance. The CKCB is considered by many to be the premiere ensemble of its nature in the southeastern United States. The CKCB regularly performs large-scale works of all genres and in the recent-past has featured such notable soloists as Vince DiMartino, Earle Louder, Jay Flippin, Richard Cryder, Ken Haddix, Stacy Baker, William Bryant, Sonny Burnette, Stephen Tilford, Angela Easterday Holder and Ryan Shirar. For exceptional members of our Tiger Bands, the CKCB also serves as an additional performing venue, which over the years has been utilized by several of our most outstanding Band Scholars. |
